Beautifully preserved charcoal rubbing on rice paper from the Banteay Srei Hindu Temple in the Angkor region of Cambodia. The mythical creature, the gajasimha, is a guardian of the temple and is often depicted with a warrior mount. This particular temple guard roams free among the native palms.
My parents acquired this rubbing while stationed in Angkor Wat, Cambodia in 1961. I had it framed in 1977 in McLean, Virginia.
Except for 2 blemishes on the frame and some tears in the backing, the piece is in excellent condition. The rubbing itself is perfectly preserved.
Measures 22.75" x 22.75" (57.8 cm x 57.8 cm) and weighs 5.5 lbs (2.5 kg)
